a volume purchase. Purchasing large numbers of plants will almost
always draw price concessions from growers and retail outlets. |
Hosta
nurseries do not initially intend to produce cheap hostas.
Many times they underestimate the hosta market and over produce.
The over production then forces the nursery to lower prices
considerably. Locating cheap hostas is the problem. How does
one find that nursery that has an over supply?
Finding
cheap hostas is something like going to garage sales looking
for a certain item for a low cost. One has to make a lot of
stops and search hard for the bargain. Searching for cheap
hostas should begin with a plan. First make a list of all
hosta growers you can find.

Look on the Internet and catalogs that have plants for sale.
After you have located some sources, wait until late spring.
As the planting season wanes, prices go down. Many time plant
producers will sell plants at bargain prices just to recoup
some costs and increase cash flow.
